Ten[nant] Is Returning

What with a new episode of Doctor Who tomorrow (I guess technically today, but since I have yet to sleep I'm calling it tomorrow) I have been in a very DW mood. Granted, I am always in a slightly DW mood, especially with the 50th anniversary on the horizon. November cannot come soon enough.

As much as I am looking forward to the sure-to-be-amazing events that will no doubt take place in the anniversary episode, I think the thing I am looking forward to the most is the return of the 10th Doctor. David Tennant is a fantastic actor and his portrayal of The Doctor is what made me fall in love with the show. He did such an outstanding job that many Whovians claim him as "their Doctor", meaning that to them he is the best and any and all other regenerations are inferior in some way, and I must say that I am one of them. Bringing Tennant back is the one thing I hoped they would do for the anniversary and they did it. I am thrilled.

It occurs to me however, that as thrilled as I and the rest of 10's loyal fanbase may be for his return, David must be even more ecstatic about reprising his role. I mean think about it. David grew up watching Doctor Who; it was his absolute favorite show as a kid. He dreamed of one day becoming an actor so that he could play The Doctor and he actually did it.

All Whovians know that David is the biggest fanboy of them all, so I can only imagine how excited he must be. Bring into account that he is coming back for one of the biggest events of the show; the big 50, and it becomes clear that while I can speculate to his amount of excitement, I am most likely drastically underestimating it. He will get to wear the suit again and the converse and possibly even the brainy specs. He will get to be back on the set he loves and, with any luck, get to say his famous catch phrase, "allons-y" again. He will get to be back where he worked his whole life to be and revisit his dream that became a reality.

No doubt 10's return will bring joy to the hearts of his fans, but knowing how Moffat tends to write these sort of episodes I think it is safe to say that that joy will be short lived. Either way, I am just glad that 10 will make an appearance again. The most recent seasons of the show have been so different from the way things were back in 10's day that it will be nice to possibly get even one episode that has even half the heart, emotion, wit, and "feels" that were ever-present during Tennant's days as The Doctor.

For me, November cannot get here soon enough. While there is still a bit of magic and wonder in the recent episodes of DW it is nothing compared to what Tennant brought to the table.
